The genius storyteller Niall de Búrca, accompanied by his son Tama on Uillean Pipes and Flute

Grab your seat for a feast of stories. Niall de Búrca is coming to town! He has many fans and friends in Zürich from previous performances and workshops. If you don’t know him yet it is worth to come and listen to his very personal style of storytelling. He travels the world with his stories and I am delighted that he is coming back to Zürich. Very special this time: his first gig accompanied by his teenage son Tama on the pipes and flute.

Cian, Bríd and Emma are first cousins and best friends from Ballymacarbry, Co. Waterford. and they play regularly together. Their name “Mochóirí” is an old Irish word and means “early risers”. They all started early playing music- They have won numerous competitions and performed live on RTE Radio and Television and they all come from a musical background. I saw them on TG4 (Gaelic Television Ireland) where they took part in a music competition for families. They made it to the final round and like the Juries and the audience I was taken by the liveliness and spirit of their music and dance. So I am delighted they I found them at long last and that they are coming to Zürich for their first concert in Switzerland. They are looking forward to that.

The three musicians:

Emma Corbett (19): Accordion and Melodion

Mike and Barbara are Cornwall’s great ambassadors. They have been working together for nine years performing folk tales, folk songs, and traditional instrumental music from their adopted home of Cornwall. There are few in the land with the skills and knowledge to perform such works. Together Mike O’Connor and Barbara Griggs are master and mistress of eloquence and melody. Their stories and music – together or separately – are much sought after, and the good humour they bring to their performances delights audiences across Europe.

Tejedor is a group from Asturias (N.Spain), founded by the three siblings José Manuel, Javier and Eva Tejedor. Eva left the band in 2010 and was replaced by the well-known singer Silvia Quesada.

They played mainly traditional Asturian music for many years, then from 1995 also their own compositions, which were partly taken over by Irish musicians.

They have received numerous awards and have been invited to many prestigious festivals, including the Celtic Connections Festival in Scotland and the Interceltic Festival in Lorient, where I met the group two years ago and I was taken by the similarity to Irish music.

They have given numerous concerts throughout Europe and also in America and South America.

For her 4 CD’s and also for concerts they have collaborated with well-known musicians such as Carlos Nunez, Phil Cunningham, Sharon Shannon and many more.

I am very happy that, despite their fame, they have agreed to come to Zurich for our small concert.

The five sixteen years old musicians of Conspóid are all attending Gaelic speaking secondary schools and are in their transition year. In this year the students are expected to avail of as many cultural and educational experiences as possible. During this visit we are happy to offer them both. They  have played together for the better part of the last decade and are all members of the traditional Irish music movement known as  Comhaltas, a national body committed to the development, excellence and continuity of traditional Irish music.

They are accomplished musicians. Individually and as part of a bigger group they have won titles in Dublin, Leinster and nationally and gone on to represent the province at the annual international Fleadh wher they won 2nd place in 2014. They regularly play at concerts and festivals in Ireland and have appeared on Irish Radio and Television. They are currently semi finalists of the prestigious all Ireland Siansa Gael competition. In 2014 members of their group recorded  A Moment in Time, an initiative of their Comhaltas chapter, Craobh Naithi.
