WALKING THE ANCIENT CELTIC WAY
19 - 27 September 2010

Celtic heritage: holy places, ancient rituals, old myths and legends, early Celtic church etc. with recognized scholars on Celtic heritage and old stories with the storytellers Niall de Búrca or Clare Murphy.

Day 1: Welcome at meeting point in Galway about 16.00, boat trip to Inishmore, transfer to B+B, dinner.

Day 2: Information about the programme, the Island and the history of the Celts, walk along the High Cliffs to Bungabhla, westend, (walking time 2hrs), evening: free time.

Day 3: Walk with Dara Ó Maoildhia: holy well (Mother Earth and old rituals), ancient wedge tomb, ( burial rituals, death and "Otherworld"), visit to the magnificent blowhole "Monster's Lair"
(The Evil in Celtic Mythology), (2hrs walk), evening: free time.

Day 4: Morning: lecture by Elizabeth: Celtic Calendar and fiest days, lecture by Dara: The Celtic Church in Ireland: peak and downfall and about his book: „The Globalisation of God“ afternoon: from the seal sanctuary to the holy places of St. Asurnai and St.Cieran (1 hrs walk), evening: free time.

Day 5: Morning: free time, afternoon: lecture with the storyteller Niall de Búrca or Clare Murphy: "Gods, heroes and mortals - an introduction to Celtic myths", evening: "Session" : old stories with Niall or Clare and gaelic singing with young and old singers from the Island.

Day 6: With Dara: "The old monastic site of Saint Enda" and the "Altóir Colmcille " (the idea of the early Celtic church) ( 2hrs walk), afternoon: time for shopping, museum, "Man of Aran" film etc., evening: Vegetarian buffet in Joel's, music session in local Pub.

Day 7: 9.00 Boat to Connemara, walk the ancient pilgrimage way to Mam Éan: "St.Patrick's Bed and Holy Well" (2hrs walk), back to Galway, transfer to B+B, dinner and "music session" in one of Galway's famous Pub's

Day 8: Morning: official end of programme in Galway
